My Enemy, My Friend

We Jews have been around long enough now to know that nothing stays the same. One day you’re up, the next down. Where, nowadays, are mighty Greece, Rome, Babylon – and of course – Egypt?
Of course, places with these names still exist, although their inhabitants have a completely different culture than their forebears. On the other hand, it’s interesting to note that the natives of these, and many other historically once important places, see themselves as the spiritual, if not cultural, descendants of their once-mighty ancestors. Considering that all …

Our Foolish Orb

Well, the new TV season is underway – and it’s safe to say that the new shows are about as dumb as the old ones! Here’s Looking at You

Wake up. Wash up. Look in the mirror. Get ready to pass out.
Now, it can’t be all that bad, can it? Morning is tough on all of us. We feel your pain. But soldier on we must. Kids are waiting to be fed, papers are waiting to be read, traffic jams are waiting to get stuck in. This is no time to slack off.
The problem, as we see it, is one of self image. If you look shleppy, you think shleppy, and act accordingly. What you need is a self-image …

The Numbers Game

Lotto, as any late night TV watcher knows, consists of choosing six numbers, between one and fifty – plus a supplementary seventh one. If you pick the right ones, you win!
Now how hard is it to pick six numbers? Very, apparently; which explains the plethora of lotto number picking software (like the one at http://tinyurl.com/3dquav). Is this something people really need? Can’t we pick six stupid numbers on our own?
But on second thought, I can sympathize with the people who use these things; their minds are already overloaded with numbers, …
